Challenges

Navigating Skepticism and Diverse Market Needs

While AI was the buzzword of the year, the AI cybersecurity landscape across ASEAN was characterised by confusion. Narratives oscillated wildly between “AI as a saviour” and “AI as a threat,” leaving enterprise decision-makers unsure about practical security applications.

Palo Alto Networks faced a complex challenge: they needed to position themselves as the leading authority on AI security across five highly distinct markets—Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia. A “one-size-fits-all” global message would fail; Singapore cared about financial regulation, while Thailand focused on manufacturing resilience. The objective was to move beyond generalised AI discussions and address localised business hurdles to drive adoption and trust.

Solutions

Localised Relevance Meets Global Expertise

We recognised that to build trust in a skeptical market, we had to demonstrate action, not just intent. We developed an integrated multi-market framework that combined global expertise with deep local relevance.

  • Identifying Market-Specific Hooks: We conducted deep research to map specific narratives to each country. For Singapore, we focused on financial services and government needs; for Thailand, manufacturing and tourism; for Indonesia, large enterprise cloud transformation; and for the Philippines and Malaysia, we identified strong public sector partnership opportunities.
  • Strategic Government Partnerships: To enhance credibility, we bypassed standard corporate messaging in favour of public sector collaboration. In the Philippines, we anchored the media briefing with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). In Malaysia, we aligned with CyberSecurity Malaysia to emphasise regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinated Regional Activation: We executed a phased rollout from March to June 2024. This included flagship Ignite events in Singapore, closed-door roundtables in Thailand, and targeted media briefings in Jakarta and Manila. This ensured consistent global branding while respecting local cultural business preferences.

Results

Measurable Results: Regional Dominance and Public Sector Trust

The campaign successfully transformed abstract AI cybersecurity discussions into practical, market-relevant narratives that resonated with local business leaders and media.

  • Exceptional Reach and Visibility: The campaign generated 672+ million total impressions and 339 earned media stories across the five markets, significantly amplifying the brand’s voice.
  • High-Value Engagement: We facilitated 40+ media interactions with Tier-1 business and technology outlets. Notable successes included high-impact engagements in Indonesia (13 interactions) and Thailand (12 interactions).
  • Strategic Authority Building: By involving government collaborators, we successfully positioned Palo Alto Networks as a partner in national progress, not just a vendor. This enhanced public sector relationships and shifted the conversation from abstract AI risks to relatable, actionable business challenges.
Key Takeaway: The Power of Localised Partnerships

In diverse regions like Southeast Asia, credibility is local. Positioning AI cybersecurity through strategic collaborations with government agencies and addressing specific industry pain points (like manufacturing in Thailand) creates authentic authority that generic corporate messaging cannot achieve.
